Recycle your hard drives

February 10, 2009

If you’ve got any spare old IDE hard drives lying around, why not put them to good use? You can install them into an external drive housing to create a low cost backup or portable storage system. At LINDY we sell these housings from as little as £12.99 for a 2.5″ IDE version so they’re a pretty affordable solution. We also stock housings with eSATA and FireWire connections. My favourite is our Mini Drive Housing which is styled like a Mac Mini and has both USB and FireWire connections so it can be used with pretty much any PC or Mac.

If you’ve no experience tinkering around with computer components, don’t worry! It’s a doddle to install a hard drive into these housings. As long as you can use a screwdriver you’re good to go. Plus, there’s a tip on our website a which walks you through it.
